Tasting Notes: Exhibiting a nose of dark blackberry and black currant, nuanced with notes of vanilla, and fresh rose powder, the subtlety and finesse are what strike the mind. The beautiful framework of this creamy, velvety and rich wine has amazing structure and mid-palate with a mouthfeel full of dark cherry and purity of fruit expression with incredible balance and length to its finish.
Food Pairing: Chateaubriand, beef wellington, slow roasted leg of lamb, coq au vin, mushroom black bean burger with brie cheese, dinner with friends.
Fun Facts: Philippe Melka was raised in Bordeaux, France and now lives in Napa CA. He holds a degree in Geology and a Master’s degree in Agronomy and Enology from the University of Bordeaux. He owns his own winemaking consulting company and he’s by far one of the most respected winemakers in all of Napa. Their CJ Cabernet is an acronym for their two children Chloe & Jeremy. The first vintage of CJ was produced in Napa in 1996, the year their son Jeremy was born and it was a mere 200 cases. Today, their annual production of CJ is a consistent 1,500 cases.
