Fun Facts: Eola-Amity Hills had it’s first vineyard planted in 1977 and the American Viticulture Area was registered as an independent AVA in 2006. It’s home to heavy volcanic soils including, vent-based soil formed from dusty rock material that has been ejected into the air and cooled before settling to the earth and basalt lava-based soil which is a solidified rock product from volcano lava flows. Due to the 14 million year old marine sediment and volcanic soils, Eola-Amity Hills wines produce Pinot Noirs, that are complex and mineral driven, darker hued wines that pose a firm structure with balanced acidity.
